Nursery Rhymes sung through the centuries have lasted because of the simple melodies and generous repetition. Many of the nursery rhymes sung feature animals – dogs, cats, cows and sheep. Nursery rhymes sung have parallels in languages other than English. The poems in the nursery rhymes sung are often expressions of universal themes such as marriage or the care of infants.

Children of all ages can enjoy nursery rhymes sung. Nursery Rhymes sung can be a source of fun. They can also be used to help children to learn songs that provide the framework for new songs. The tunes that nursery rhymes are sung to can apply the information to be learned. The child can recall the information later of the nursery rhymes sung.

Older children can work in small groups or as a class to write songs that go with familiar nursery rhymes sung. Writing the words so that they fit a tune reinforces the students' understanding of the information and helps them identify patterns in language and music. Performing the new song for family, friends, or other classes reinforces the content in a fun, entertaining way.

Nursery rhymes sung delight young and old while helping to connect generations. Young children can experiment with music and sound when nursery rhymes are sung.
